Job Summary:

This is the entry level of professional work in an engineering or scientific discipline. Incumbents perform routine scientific or engineering work, evaluating, selecting and applying standardized scientific or engineering procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives. Assignments require investigation of a limited number of variables and few complex features. This position requires traveling around Texas documenting bridge substructure condition and collecting data as well as conducting laboratory experiments. The work will mainly focus on comprehensive evaluation of concrete sealers and coatings applied to bridge substructure in the state of Texas through material testing in the lab and field evaluation. The potential benefits are the development of recommendations for the level of surface preparation required for various sealer or coating systems and for the optimal coating type for the Receiving Agency's substructures with or without previously applied coatings. Continuation in this position is contingent upon availability of funding derived from research program or specific projects.

Essential Duties:

  • Literature review; developing and conducting sealers and coating evaluation lab test program; developing a rating scheme for lab and field conditions; and participating in field validation program.

  • Conduct data analysis and interpretation with critical evaluation skills

  • Write and prepare reports and presentations

  • Other duties as assigned. 1%

Required Education & Experience:

  • PhD

  • No prior experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience on evaluating sealers and coating materials based on both laboratory and field investigations

  • Experience on handling devices that measure moisture and chloride migrations and model developments

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of sustainable construction material, Life cycle analysis of concrete

  • Petrographic examination and microstructural analysis skills

  • Required mineralogy and chemistry background

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to complete the given project in a timely manner

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Valid Texas Drivers License or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform common office functions.

  • Ability to frequently communicate with other individuals within the workplace.

  • Ability to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.

  • Travel across Texas required for data collection and experiments
