Position Highlights

The One Health Initiative within UA Health Sciences recognizes the health and wellness interconnection between people, animals, plants, and our shared environment. One Health is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be a key member of our One Health research team, responsible for overseeing the operations of the One Health fish laboratory while actively participating in collaborative research projects supported by the One Health Research Initiative. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong organizational skills, technical expertise in laboratory operations, and a passion for advancing interdisciplinary research in the field of One Health. The Postdoctoral Research Associate plays a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of complex health issues through interdisciplinary research, contributing to the mission of the One Health Research Initiative and promoting excellence in scientific inquiry and collaboration.

Duties & Responsibilities

Overseeing operations of the One Health fish laboratory:

  • Responsible for the One Health fish laboratory, including policy, planning, administration, and operation. Maintains fish colony for One Health research projects, including animal husbandry (e.g., feeding, water quality) and breeding (natural and in vitro).
  • Cleans, sterilizes, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment, machinery and instruments used for research in the One Health fish laboratory.
  • Coordinates the acquisition of lab supplies and maintains inventory.
  • Refines, adapts, and develops procedures or techniques to fit experimental requirements.
  • Collaborates with researchers and the administration on matters relating to laboratory fish research, the development of new fish facilities, and related matters.
  • Maintains accurate and reliable records including database management, notebooks (physical/electronic), etc.
  • Collects and compiles research data. Completes calculations of test results. Documents field notes and records.
  • Provides routine and technical support to One Health research projects.
  • Consults with scientists in the design and writing of grants and institutional protocols.

Research projects in collaboration with faculty supported by the One Health Research Initiative:

  • Development, deployment, and application of experiments and analyses for targeted projects in One Health. 
  • Perform analysis, visualization, and interpretation of histology data.
  • Perform analysis, visualization, and interpretation of high-throughput behavioral assays on the Noldus system. 
  • Write manuscripts for publication.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • This role requires a dynamic individual with strong organizational skills, technical expertise in laboratory operations, and a passion for advancing interdisciplinary research in the field of One Health.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in toxicology, histopathology, biology, or related field.
  • Experience in fish husbandry and histopathology.
  • Experience working independently and in collaboration to execute tasks.
