What we want   


The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for an Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology team. The Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for performing research related to Borrelia burgdorferi and manuscript/grant writing.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience.  


Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate PhD/Doctorate 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior research with pathogenic bacteria and publications in peer reviewed journals

Responsibilities:

Bench Work

  • Characterizes the pathogenic correlates of Borrelia burgdorferi focusing on (1) CRISPR-based genetic tools and (2) biochemical characterization of activities associated with its infectivity and virulence. Once proteins are identified, the genes encoding them will be inactivated to determine their role(s) in borrelial infectivity and pathogenesis.

Manuscript and Grant Writing

  • Writes manuscripts and grants.

Meetings

  • Attends lab meetings as well as departmental research seminars, journal clubs, and other meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
