The research assistant will study the theory of pseudo-elastic tensegrity structures and derive their nonlinear kinematics relation. Write computer programming codes using symbolic mathematics software Maple. Bandgap formation in tensegrity-inspired pseudo-elastic meta-structures. Location: This position is NOT located in the United States. One must be willing to relocate to Doha, Qatar.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Responsibilities:

  • Build a test prototype to validate experimentally bandgap formation in tensegrity-inspired metamaterials. Conduct free and forced vibration experiments on various on the fabricated prototype using DataPhysics Data Acquisition software and hardware systems and the software ME’Scope for post-processing vibration data. In addition, use SolidWorks software to create 3D geometrical models for CNC machining and 3D printing.
  • Develop reduced-order and finite element models for tensegrity-inspired metamaterials and study their bandgap behavior and their tunability. Perform finite element analyses using commercial finite elements codes such as SAP2000, ANSYS and FEMTOOLS in addition to other software.
  • Study the theory of pseudo-elastic tensegrity structures and derive their nonlinear kinematics relation. Write computer programming codes using symbolic mathematics software Maple.
  • Write computer codes in Matlab, Python and Fortran and assisting in writing journal and conference papers. Perform other duties as assigned
