The postdoctoral research associate is responsible for executing the science tasks outlined in the NASA proposal awarded to Dr. Ryan C. Ewing titled “Linking crater basin winds, dune morphology, and stratigraphy”. The tasks include conducting topographic and spatial analysis of digital elevation models and images of the surface of Mars. Required Education:

  • Appropriate PhD

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Demonstrated ability to write peer-reviewed publishable scientific papers
  • Proficiency in writing and understanding Python code
  • Proficiency working with command-line interfaces
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS or similar software

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • Teleworking for this position is allowed with consent of the PI and an agreement of duties to be accomplished during teleworking

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Geosciences, Planetary Sciences, Data Science
  • Experience working with GitHub repositories
  • Experience with geological feature mapping and remote sensing
  • Experience analyzing topographic data datasets
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting wind-blown geomorphic systems.
  • Experience working with statistics and large datasets

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Interest in integrating wind and climate models into topographic analysis
  • Interest in Planetary Surface Processes

Responsibilities:

  • Research Data Collection and Processing: Analyzing topographic and image datasets of the surface of Mars using Python or other coding language, geographic information systems, and other software and interfaces.
  • Research Data Analysis: Synthesize topographic data and climate models to evaluate configurations of dune deposits in crater basins on Mars.
  • Writing:  Manuscript and grant writing - includes generation of original text and figures. Performs other duties as assigned.
