What We Want

The Postdoctoral Research Associate, under general supervision, will work in the Texas A&M Energy Institute on research and development related to the design, optimization under uncertainty, techno-economic analysis, sustainability and scenario analysis of energy, process and manufacturing systems and their supply chains. This individual will be responsible for completing tasks within assigned projects, coordinating with multiple research groups, mentoring, and meeting with Ph.D. and master’s-level research students, meeting with project partners regularly to drive research forward, and working with faculty to draft articles and proposals, publishing research findings in top peer-reviewed journals, and delivering scientific and technical presentations at conferences.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • PhD in Engineering, Science, or related field

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Process Systems Engineering, Computational Science or equivalent

  • Scholarly record of publications in peer-reviewed journals

  • Experience in proposal preparation

  • Experience in conducting research under sponsored research grants

  • Experience in optimization, process intensification, and process modeling and control

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with an interdisciplinary team

  • Ability to identify target audiences for institute needs and deliver persuasive verbal presentations or written communications

  • Ability to work within and foster a collaborative environment, where tasks or projects may rely on multiple individuals both within and outside of the institute

  • Strong programming skills with knowledge of at least one of the following programming languages: python, C/C++, R, Java, Matlab, or similar

  • Expertise in modeling, optimization under uncertainty, control, and data analytics

Responsibilities

  • Research- Conducts research in the areas of process intensification; process modeling, optimization under uncertainty, and control; data analytics and optimization for control for environmental issues and sustainable supply chains. Develops theoretical advancements for the completion of tasks within the institute’s projects. Serves as a key point of contact on projects for internal and external team coordination and deliverables (manuscripts, reports, presentations) completion. Utilizes state-of-the-art methods in data science, optimization, and machine learning algorithms to coordinate the translation of data produced by the multi-disciplinary research projects into useful knowledge for the community via data collection, quality control, analysis, and model generation. Participates in joint research work, including proposal development, research execution and other relevant research activities.

  • Dissemination- Prepares manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications in top-tier journals. Works with principal investigators and students to prepare and co-author reports and studies. Attends meetings and national/international conferences to deliver research results and identify new project areas.

  • Mentoring-Mentors research students under the relevant projects’ principal investigators, providing adequate mentorship and guidance.
