This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding which is renewed under the provisions of the grantor of the contract. This position, therefore, is contingent upon continuation of funding of these grants and/or contracts and satisfactory job performance.

Job Description Summary Under the guidance of the faculty of the Texas A&M College of Nursing, the postdoctoral research associate (postdoc) will carry out research that advances knowledge focused on improving health outcomes for families. This will include projects focused on addressing disparities in health care access to promote optimal birth outcomes and promote healthy childhood development. Some initiatives might include projects related to family visiting, domestic violence and child maltreatment, and substance use disorder. As an integral member of this interdisciplinary research team, the postdoc will have opportunities to extend, refine, and enhance skills necessary for professional and career development and will enable the individual to broaden their scientific background by acquiring new research capabilities. It is expected that this individual will conduct independent scholarly research and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project teams to which they are assigned. During the course of the position, the postdoc will be expected to contribute to composition and submission of grants, supervise junior team members, and publish his/her research. The postdoc will be expected to participate in project planning, interpretation/ evaluation of data, and communication of results. Opportunities for career development will be emphasized. The postdoc will also be expected to acquire technical, advanced data analysis, and manuscript/grant writing skills and participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions, and presentations at national meetings. The postdoctoral research associate also may be required to develop new methods and protocols for research and assist with the development of other research projects for the assigned faculty.

Required Education:

  • Appropriate PhD

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written

Preferred Education:

  • PhD in nursing or health related field

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with research related to maternal child health and/or child protection
  • Experience working with individuals and communities with different perspectives, talents and identities
  • Experience with grant writing  
  • Experience developing manuscripts
  • Experience developing and giving presentations

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Advanced research methods

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with research methodology
  • Excellent organizational skills

Job Responsibilities

Research Projects

  • Assist with writing grants and in the design, implementation, and analysis of research projects within the College of Nursing

Presentations and dissemination

  • Work closely with assigned faculty members to develop research-related manuscripts and develop/give research-related presentations for scholarly outlets

Mentor

  • Mentor and provide direction for students working on assigned faculty projects

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
