Here’s a Glimpse of the Job 

We are pleased to invite applicants for a position as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Chemistry at Texas A&M University, in association with the NSF Center for the Mechanical Control of Chemistry. The position will be working in the labs of Dr. Alison Altman (primary) and Dr. James Batteas, in the areas of high-pressure materials characterization and mechanochemistry. As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will be responsible for writing manuscripts, developing research proposals, and helping with graduate student mentoring and group organization. This is a grant funded/contingent position for an appointment of one year, renewable upon mutual agreement and financial ability.

Opportunities to Contribute:  

  • Develop and conduct innovative research  

  • Work with and mentor graduate and undergraduate students associated with the project 

  • Disseminate completed works via publications and presentation at conferences 

  • Provide advice and assistance to other laboratory team members  

Qualifications 

  • Appropriate PhD with experience in either solid-state chemistry and/or optically detected magnetic resonance techniques

A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:  

  • PhD in physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, or condensed matter physics

  • Experience in optical spectroscopic methods for solid-state materials characterization

  • Graduate student research work experience 

  • Ability to publish in top tier academic chemistry journals  

  • Ability to take an active role working with doctoral and undergraduate students 

  • Evidence of active participation in the scientific community 

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate’s education and experience. 

Schedule: May require working evening and/or weekend hours
