Job Description

The Postdoctoral Research Associate Position is in the Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center (HRRC) in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at Texas A&M University. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Nathanael Rosenheim and other HRRC faculty and staff to design, implement, and lead research in the broad area of hazard and disaster vulnerability.

Required Education:

  • PhD in Urban Planning, Sociology, Political Science, Anthropology or a related field.
  • If the degree had not been conferred at the time applicant applied for a postdoc position, a letter needs to be attached from the school's official Graduate Office and/or Registrar's Office certifying that all requirements for the degree have been met and stating the degree conferral date.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with quantitative social science data, particularly related to food security, social vulnerability, disaster recovery, or infrastructure systems.
  • Track record of scholarly and public outreach via academic publications, presentations, and public writing and presentations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team and a drive to create own novel research direction.
  • Experience with quantitative data analysis software (i.e., Stata and Python), GIS software (i.e., ESRI ArcGIS or Qgis).

Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for performing a leadership role and providing the support and management skills necessary to accomplish the objectives of the on-going research projects of the HRRC.
  • Assist in developing new research project proposals.
  • Publish research results in top-tier peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Mentor MS/PhD students and supervise undergraduate students.Performs other duties as assigned.
