Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate PhD

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in the following technical skills: Molecular biology and biotechnology: RNA and DNA isolation, PCR, RT PCR, Q-real time PCR, gel electrophoresis, gel documentation, SDS-PAGE;
  • Immunology: ELISA, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry – particularly with fluorescently tagged antibodies, immunoprecipitation techniques; Histology; Cell culture; Confocal microscopy
  • Bioinformatics experience
  • Statistical analysis (SPSS, JMP IN, Prism, SAS)
  • Skill in writing manuscripts and grants
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Good oral and writing communication skills

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • At least 1-2 years of post-doctoral training
  • Experience handling animals, working in applied science in a laboratory and supervising both undergraduate and graduate students

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds
  • Proficiency in the following technical skills: Gene cloning; Peptide analysis and proteomics; LC-MS/MS and GC-MS analysis of metabolites and steroid hormones; Confocal microscopy; Rodent models – handling and surgery

Responsibilities:

Research

  • Design and implementation of laboratory experiments, including preparation of solutions and cleaning work areas; this may require light to moderate lifting
  • Conduct in vivo and whole organ culture-based experiments, using a rodent model of polycystic ovary syndrome
  • Molecular analysis of collected tissues
  • Communicate with PI, liaise with collaborators within as well as outside of TAMU

Searches & Meetings

  • Conduct literature searches and reviews and continue to update knowledge and develop skills
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • Generate and display the results of designed experiments and interpret their implications
  • Actively participate as a member of a research team and attend and contribute to relevant meetings
  • Present research findings to colleagues and at conferences
  • Write progress reports and prepare results for publication and dissemination via presentations and the world wide web

Teaching

  • Coordinate and supervise undergraduate researchers
  • Supervise and mentor graduate students

Laboratory Workflow Management

  • Lab maintenance and work flow management including: inventorying and ordering supplies, record keeping and safety compliance, chemical waste management. Performs other duties as assigned.
