What We Want

This Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for lab safety and organization.  As part of independent research, the candidate will make peptidic based molecules, sometimes on PEG supports, for binding protein receptor targets, particularly cyclins for one project and GRFα1 for another. These peptidic molecules will be cyclized using organic fragments, but particularly where that fragment is a cyanine, rhodamine, or BODIPY dye, which this position will prepare.  These cyclized ligands will be tested for binding then, if appropriate, the position will be responsible for transforming these into PROTACS. If this job description sounds interesting to you, we invite you to apply to be considered for this opportunity.

 

What You Need to Know

Salary Range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to build a positive work environment and be helpful, respectful, approachable, and team-oriented

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in NMR, IR, LC-MS equipment

  • Experience working with PROTACS

  • Experience in isolation, purification, and characterization of organic compounds

  • Experience in peptidomimetic inhibitor synthesis

  • Experience in developing small molecule inhibitors

  • In depth experience in molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology

Responsibilities:

  • Research: Responsible for conducting independent research making peptidic based molecules, cyclizing peptidic molecules, testing cyclized ligands for binding and transforming ligands into PROTACS. Will support the Primary Investigator (PI) and Co-PIs with relevant administrative work as assigned.

  • Training: Assist in training other lab members on any new techniques that have been developed, train new graduate and undergraduate lab members on lab procedures and equipment.

  • Lab Maintenance: Assists with Lab maintenance, inventory, and supply ordering.

  • Research Presentation: Prepares and presents research results; meet with Dr. Burgess frequently to discuss the project’s progress, grant writing, and manuscript preparation and submission; and performs other duties as assigned.
