The Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute, a Department of Energy University Facility, is jointly supported by DOE and the State of Texas and is a major technical and educational resource for the state and the nation. At the Institute, we focus on conducting basic research, educating students in accelerator-based science and technology, and providing technical capabilities for a wide variety of applications in space science, materials science, analytical procedures and nuclear medicine. What We Want


The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct research in experimental low energy nuclear physics in collaboration with the Center for Excellence in Nuclear Training and University-Based Research (CENTAUR). The mission of CENTAUR is to provide the research experience necessary to develop the next generation of leaders in stewardship science in the area of low-energy nuclear science in support of the workforce and research needs relevant to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) mission. More specifically, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will perform experiments using beams of heavy ions produced by the Cyclotron Institute. In addition, this position will analyze results of these experiments, disseminate the results through research papers and presentations, and also supervise and aid graduate students in their research. What You Need to Know

Salary Range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics or related field

  • Three years of research experience in experimental nuclear physics

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Five years of research experience in experimental nuclear physics, knowledge of silicon, scintillator, and gaseous detectors

  • Experience with time projection chambers

  • Knowledge of analysis and simulation software, such as ROOT and GEANT4

  • Experience with General Electronics for TPCs (GET)

Responsibilities:

  • Research: Performing experiments using beams of heavy ions produced by the Cyclotron Institute, analyze results of these experiments, disseminate the results through research papers and presentations, supervise and aid graduate students in their research, and performs other duties as assigned.
