Department Summary
The Research Commercial Agreements (RCA) unit within the Division of Research & Innovation at the University of North Texas provides numerous services to the university community centered around strengthening UNT’s overall research portfolio. This is mainly done through the commercialization of UNT intellectual property, and sponsored research collaborations and contracting. The RCA unit also provides services including: negotiating and executing research contracts; evaluating, protecting, marketing, and commercializing UNT’s inventions and research assets; aiding faculty and staff researchers in the creation of startups; providing outreach and education to UNT researchers about intellectual property and commercialization; and stimulating collaboration with industry partners to enhance research activities at UNT.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary
The Research Commercial Agreements unit at the University of North Texas is seeking a post-doctoral research associate to leverage their scientific acumen while developing new expertise in the areas of research innovation, intellectual property, and technology transfer. The Research Commercial Agreements unit, housed within the Division of Research & Innovation, oversees UNT’s intellectual property, commercial licensing, and startups to ensure that researchers’ discoveries achieve their full potential. Reporting to the Executive Director, Technology Transfer & Contracting a successful candidate must be highly motivated and detail-oriented to thrive in growing the UNT technology transfer research portfolio.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in scientific discipline that is relevant to UNT’s research portfolio.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Engineering or Natural Sciences discipline.
  • Work experience in technology transfer and research commercialization.

Conduct patentability assessments for new technologies including prior art analysis and evaluation of intellectual property protection strategies.

Assist licensing team in developing a commercialization plan which includes market research, authoring and publishing marketing materials, identifying potential licensees and/or exploring startup formation opportunities.

Work closely with the team to provide effective, efficient technology transfer services to faculty while maximizing IP opportunities for the university.

Participate in continuing education and hands-on training to develop skills in technology evaluation, intellectual property protection, marketing, licensing, and startup company support.

Participate in outreach and trainings to faculty, staff, and student researchers to increase awareness of Research Commercial Agreements service offerings and procedures for research innovation, intellectual property, and startup support.

Assist licensing team with conducting due diligence analysis to assess licensee compliance, and other technology transfer duties as assigned.
