The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the Molecular and Cellular Medicine team. Job Summary: The Postdoc Research Associate is responsible for animal studies and all aspects of mammalian cell culture and downstream assays including protein and nucleic acids assays. In addition, the Postdoc Research Associate will be responsible for the maintenance of the lab, lab equipment and inventory and ordering of lab supplies.

Required Education:

  • Appropriate PhD

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Knowledge of lab room preparation and lab techniques and safety.
  • Willing and able to work with laboratory animals
  • Possess an excellent attitude and willingness to learn new techniques appropriate to job functions. 
  • Ability to pay attention to detail, keep accurate and up to date research records, maintain equipment records, and follow established protocols. 
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work in a Biosafety Level 2 lab and follow all guidelines. 
  • Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.

Preferred Education:

  • PhD in immunology or cell biology

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in experimentation with rodents and immune cell cultures
  • Experience in experimentation with immunology research
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to prepare research data for publication and presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Ability to cooperate with other members of the laboratory staff in maintaining all instruments and maintaining a safe environment for all throughout the IRM facilities.
  • Ability to collaborate with other researchers/doctors to perform research on the area of expertise.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct all aspects of mammalian cell cultures and downstream assays including isolation of extracellular vesicles from cell culture conditioned medium and protein/nucleic acids assays (RT-PCR, western blot and ELISAs).
  • Assist with all aspects of in vivo experiments with laboratory animals (handling animals, drug administration and tissue collections, etc), tissue processing and histological analysis.
  • Prepare research data for publication and presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Collaborate with other researchers/doctors to perform research on the area of expertise.
  • Cooperate with other members of the laboratory staff in maintaining all instruments and maintaining a safe environment for all throughout the IRM facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
