Postdoctoral Research Associate

Updated: 4 months ago
Location: Princeton, NEW JERSEY
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!
A postdoctoral research associate or more senior position is available in the group of Jonathan Conway in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Princeton University to study and engineer thermophilic lignocellulose-degrading enzymes and organisms for biofuel processes.
In this project, we will identify and characterize thermophilic cellulase and hemicellulase enzymes to degrade recalcitrant components of plant biomass for integration in first- and second-generation biofuel processes. For the most promising enzyme candidates, protein engineering will be used to maximize enzyme expression and improve stability at biofuel process conditions. Related projects to understand protein structure-function and genetically manipulate extremely thermophilic lignocellulosic bacteria for consolidated bioprocessing are ongoing in the Conway lab. Our work in these industrial biotechnology and bio-energy areas is in addition to work on plant-microbe interactions with living plants for bio-agriculture applications. More information about the lab can be found at https://conwaylab.princeton.edu .
Initial appointments are for one year, with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and available funding. Individuals have or expect to have a PhD with appropriate research experience in chemical engineering, biomolecular engineering, molecular biology, biochemistry, bacterial genetics, bioinformatics, microbiology, or a related field. The successful candidate will be motivated, independent, have strong writing and communication skills, and be prepared to work in a dynamic team environment.
Princeton University is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. We actively seek students, faculty, and staff of exceptional ability and promise who share in our commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, and who will bring a diversity of viewpoints and cultures. In doing so, we encourage applications from individuals whose personal identities, backgrounds and/or interests (as demonstrated by their research, teaching, service, mentoring and/or advising) align with our commitments and will contribute to the excellence and diversity, in its broadest terms, of our department.

Applicants should apply at: https://puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHire/position/30542 and include a cover letter (including a description of their past research, expertise, and future research interests), CV (including a list of publications), Publication List, Research Statement, and contact information for three references. This position is subject to the University's background check policy. Princeton University is an Equal Opportunity/ Affirmative Action Employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
