A multi-year postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Biological Sciences and Chemistry at the University of Illinois Chicago. A preeminent public research university located in Chicago, IL, the University of Illinois Chicago is the largest research University in Chicago with a highly competitive and collaborative research program through its 16 Colleges. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be advised by Dr. Rui Gao of the University of Illinois Chicago and Dr. Kaiwen Kam at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS) through the collaborative biomedical research infrastructure of the Chicago Biomedical Consortium (CBC). The Gao laboratory (https://bios.uic.edu/profiles/gao-ruixuan/) and the Kam laboratory (http://www.rosalindfranklin.edu/academics/faculty/kaiwen-kam) offer an interactive and multidisciplinary environment aimed at answering basic questions related to anatomy and function of neural circuits critical to animal behavior and human health. The Postdoctoral Research Associate is expected to apply a broad range of advanced neuroscience techniques, including in vitro electrophysiology, transgenic mouse technology, multi-photon microscopy, holographic mapping, tissue clearing/expansion, and light-sheet microscopy to study the structure of neural circuits controlling breathing and respiratory-related behaviors.

A successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field. Experience with microscopy, and/or optical techniques is desirable, though not necessary.
