Job Description

Position Summary

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow who will assist in developing and conducting experimental research projects focused on an exciting projecting, investigating the role of mechanobiology and hemodynamics in thrombosis and hemostasis. The work is partially sponsored by the National Science Foundation and is directed by Assistant Professor David Bark. The position will involve experimental design, data analysis and documentation of experiment results. You will work on an interdisciplinary team comprised of engineers, biologists, and clinicians. 

The project(s) will involve the use of enabling technologies that include microfluidic device fabrication, application of magnetic tweezers, use of high speed imaging to quantify flow, traction force microscopy, computational modeling, and other biophysical tools.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
  • Prepares and submits papers on research.
  • Assists in the design of research experiments.
  • Evaluates research findings and assists in the reporting of the results.
  • Maintains conscientious discharge of their research responsibilities.
  • Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research.
  • Maintains compliance with good laboratory practice, including the maintenance of adequate research records.
  • Engages in open and timely discussion with their mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.
  • Maintains collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
  • Adheres to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations.  All data, research records and materials and other intellectual property generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.  The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D., M.D. or an equivalent terminal or doctoral degree with a background in either cell biology, biophysics, mechanobiology, or engineering.
  • Good track record of publications and scientific output.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and demonstrated skill set in microscopy, biophysical techniques, programming, and machine learning is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement laboratory procedures, conduct research and records findings.
  • Exhibit independence, self-motivation, and excellent organizational skills.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
