Job Description

Position Summary

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Nardhy Gomez-Lopez’s laboratory at Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Center for Reproductive Health Sciences.

Dr. Gomez-Lopez’s research is primarily focused on the immunological pathways that lead to obstetrical disorders, with the goals of improving the understanding of the mechanisms of disease and of developing methods for the early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of pregnancy complications. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Process and work with big data, including but not limited to single-cell RNA sequencing, microbiome, and bulk transcriptomic datasets.
  • Perform appropriate statistical analyses and data modelling to address relevant scientific questions in accordance with the study design.
  • Generate figures and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts resulting from analyzed datasets.
  • Provide meaningful contributions to experimental design for new projects, and collaborate with researchers from different backgrounds to successfully complete projects.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in computational biology.
  • Experience from a prior post-doctoral position focused on computational biology.  
  • Mastery of current analytical tools and best practices for working with commonly utilized big data types.
  • Willingness to adopt and master new computational tools to process and analyze data generated from emerging technologies such as spatial transcriptomics.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate high-quality figures as well as contribute to manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
  • This is a dry lab position with no expectation for the candidate to perform animal experimentation or wet lab techniques; however, a basic working knowledge of such procedures is preferred to promote collaboration.

Working Conditions

The chosen candidate may occasionally be required to enter a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards, and thus must be physically able to wear protective equipment if needed.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
