About the Opportunity
This postdoc position will provide experience in carrying out and proposing research on medical device security, including both technical work and regulatory affairs research. The postdoc position lasts one year, with an option to renew for additional years subject to satisfactory performance and successful fundraising of sponsored research. A postdoctoral research associate will assist the PI with laboratory duties to provide apprenticeship experience for candidate's career building.
The primary responsibility will be leading research projects and writing under the supervision of the PI, including proposal writing and publishing research publications in top venues of computer security, regulatory affairs, medical device design standards, or medical device design.
The position will involve the mentoring of undergraduate and graduate research students including introducing them to the research environment, process, and accessibility to resources.
Project management will also be a key part to manage research activities including tracking and meeting deadlines and initiating needed activities to stay on track with acquiring and maintaining lab and research resources such as purchasing research capital equipment and supplies.
The postdoc is expected to foster an inclusive lab culture and environment to improve interactions among team members, promoting shared knowledge, and also keeping team motivated and interested in achieving common goals. The postdoc will organize (by delegation or direct action) periodic social events/breaks, annual retreats, weekly research paper reading groups. The postdoc will also co-organize Archimedes seminars on medical device security to host invited speakers.
A postdoc will gain experience on how and when to delegate duties to grad students and undergrads, and she will gain experience on how to best collaborate with staff for administrative matters.
The postdoc will have secondary duties occasionally on matters such as guest lecturing when the PI has out-of-town events, reimplementation of lab experiments to gain experience, and recruiting students and lab members by leading (and delegating) the search through graduate admissions folders. Secondary responsibilities also include mentoring students and staying involved with helping the overall management of the lab research projects and resources.
