Innovation. Interdisciplinary collaboration. Complex problem solving. In Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, faculty members, researchers, and students are revolutionizing focus areas in advanced manufacturing, bioengineering, computational engineering, energy and the environment, product design, and robotics. In addition, they are using their expertise in interdisciplinary research centers across the university.

Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join their team.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by developing multimodality biosensors (e.g., flexible electrophysiological and electrochemical (flexible electrophysiological and electrochemical flexible electrophysiological and electrochemical). In addition, you will be using unconventional approaches for the design and fabrication of bioelectrical platforms with clinical translation as the goal. Using unique bioelectrical sensors and actuators will allow you to tackle grand biomedical challenges such as wound healing, controlled therapeutics delivery, and pain management.

Professor Majidi’s career mission is to discover materials, hardware architectures, and fabrication methods that allow robots and machines to behave like soft biological organisms, and be safe for contact with humans. The aim is to replace the bulky and rigid hardware in existing robots with soft, lightweight, and deformable technologies that match the functionality of natural biological tissue. Currently, his group is focused on filled-elastomer composites and soft microfluidic systems that exhibit unique combinations of mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties and can function as “artificial” skin, nervous tissue, and muscle for soft robotics and wearables.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research experiments within the predetermined research scope and methodology of the department and university.

  • Collecting and analyzing data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
