Position Highlights

The Limesand Group in the School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences (SACBS) in the College of Agriculture, Life & Environmental Sciences (CALES) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate I. This position's work location is the Campus Agricultural Center (CAC).

The successful candidate will work independently using a variety of molecular biology and physiological techniques to examine fetal metabolism. This position will involve a diverse range of activities from basic laboratory maintenance to research projects utilizing measures of substrate oxidation, molecular, and biochemical approaches. Furthermore, animal handling, nutrition, and surgical experience will be key components of this position. Seeking an inquisitive, well-organized, and highly motivated person who is open to evolving research tasks and capable of developing techniques new to the laboratory to explore metabolism at a systems level.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare, execute, and adapt molecular and cellular biological experiments to meet the needs of the research project such as, but not limited, to techniques listed: immunohistochemistry, bioinformatics (RNAseq & scRNAseq), pancreatic islet isolations, cell/organ culture, and metabolite tracer methodologies
  • Maintain detail records of experimental procedure and analysis of results for presentation purposes
  • Mentor students in procedures related to the research project
  • Perform administrative and maintenance duties such as bookkeeping, ordering supplies, preparation of solutions, and waste disposal
  • Consult with faculty researcher on independent research results and design future experiments

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience communicating effectively, both verbally and written
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in a relevant field upon hire AND two years of related research
  • Experience with fetal and placental physiology and in working with metabolic measurements in animals
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with strong organization and follow-through
  • Experience exhibiting technical accuracy
  • Experience with modern research methods in Animal Sciences
  • Experience analyzing and evaluating data
  • At least one peer-reviewed paper as a first-author in this field of research
