Position Highlights

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate I to work in the laboratory of Dr. Wondisford at the College of Medicine-Phoenix. Dr. Wondisford recently joined the College of Medicine-Phoenix to continue biomedical research projects funded by NIH. The laboratory is in the newly renovated Biomedical Science Partnership Building (BSPB) in the downtown of Phoenix along with new equipment and friendly crews.

The primary focus of the research position is to molecular mechanisms of glucose homeostasis and thyroid hormones in metabolic disease such as diabetes and fatty liver disease. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in metabolic physiology with a strong publication record. Prior experience in metabolism, metabolomics and biochemistry will be preferred. Candidates must have (or expect to receive) a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree, and be self-motivated.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • The Postdoctoral Research Associate is expected to carry out the research projects related to diabetes and fatty liver disease independently under the direction of the principal investigator.
    • Designing experiments
    • Formulating new ideas related to the projects
    • Executing experiments proficiently and timely
    • Analyzing data professionally 
  • Handle multiple projects to write scientific papers and reviews, and to present work in laboratory meetings and scientific conferences.
  • Work with students, clinical fellow and technicians for executing experiment, problem solving, interpreting results and planning follow-up experiments.
  • Participate in the acquisition of research funding by initiating and writing research papers and grant proposals. Participate as authors in peer-reviewed research journals, books or chapter publications. 
  • Participate and present results at meetings and conferences.
  • Contribute to laboratory maintenance and management
  • Maintain and manage laboratory equipment
  • Ordering experimental disposables and reagents for experiment timely
  • Complying biosafety requirements and animal protocol
  • Organize laboratory and implement procedures
  • Other additional duties assigned by supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
  • The candidate must have (or expect to receive) a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree in metabolic disease related studies.
Preferred Qualifications ● Single cell RNA sequencing; animal procedures; molecular biology skills.
