Position Highlights The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate I. The primary focus of the research position is to study pulmonary vascular biology including hepatopulmonary syndrome, pulmonary hypertension, particularly related to the presence of chronic liver disease.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in molecular biology and/or mouse genetics with a strong publication record. Prior experience in either rodent models of human diseases, rodent surgeries, metabolism, epigenetics, immunology, pulmonology, cardiovascular biology, or bioinformatics will be preferred. Candidates must have (or expect to receive) a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree, and be self-motivated. The candidates are expected to carry out the projects independently with minimal supervision, including designing experiments, formulating new ideas related to the projects, executing experiments proficiently and timely, and analyzing data professionally. The scientists are expected to handle multiple projects, to write scientific papers and reviews, and to present work in scientific conferences. The scientists are expected to work with students and technicians including assay development, problem solving, interpreting results and planning follow-up experiments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead projects utilizing in vivo and in vitro systems:
    • Perform independent research experiments under the direction of senior researchers or principal investigators.
    • Conduct research using rodent disease models including animal procedures and surgeries upon trainings.
    • Design and perform tissue/cell cultures, and molecular biology related experiments to elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying the disease conditions
    • Maintain rodent colonies and monitor/care animals during the study periods ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Collect experimental samples/data and record experimental data meticulously.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and publications:
    • Participate in the acquisition of research funding by initiating and writing grant proposals/supporting documents.
    • Participate or authors articles in peer-reviewed journals, books or chapter publications.
    • Participate or presents at meetings and conferences.
    • May co-author and may co-present results with principal investigators at meetings or conferences.
  • Contribute to training and laboratory management:
    • Provide training to students and junior researchers.
    • Maintain and service laboratory equipment.
    • Manage and assist with biosafety requirements.
    • Organize laboratory and implement procedures.
  • Additional laboratory duties related to research as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or MD, MD/PhD in Biology Sciences or relevant field of study.
Preferred Qualifications • Strong publication record.
• Advanced knowledge in hepatology, pulmonology, cardiovascular biology, and/or immunology.
• Proficiency in rodent disease models and molecular biology skills.
• Strong collaboration skills with interdisciplinary research teams and external collaborators.
• Experiences in advanced Single cell RNA sequencing, transcriptomics, and/or bioinformatics
