Job Description

Position Summary

A laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis is seeking highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associates to study ion channels in heart and neural function. The laboratory (P.I. Jianmin Cui, Department of Biomedical Engineering) investigates molecular mechanisms and physiological functions of ion channels in health and disease. A combination of animal models, electrophysiology, biophysical, biochemical, imaging and computational techniques will be used in the laboratory to understand the structure-function relation, modulation, association with diseases of these channels.

The projects include discovery of ion channel modulators for the treatment of cardiac diseases such as arrhythmia, understanding of how physiological stimuli such as voltage, ligand, or mechanical force open ion channels, and development of new technology to stimulate neural activities and heart pacing using ultrasound. The expected start date will be no later than November 1, 2022.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent Ph.D. training in neuroscience, physiology, cell biology, chemistry/biochemistry, biophysics or biomedical engineering.
  • Interest and background in in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology/imaging, mouse genetics or mouse models of diseases.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
