Position Summary
This position (of up to 2 years) involves a combination of both seismology research and geophysical teaching. The research component will be part of the seismology research program in the Department of Environmental, Earth, and Planetary Sciences, led by Dr. Douglas Wiens (https://sites.wustl.edu/wiensseismology/ ), which specializes in large deep earthquakes in the Pacific Ocean and the seismology of Antarctica. The teaching component will be mentored by Dr. Michael Wysession, Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, and will involve teaching one course in each of the two years.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducting original research, documenting results, writing journal articles, and presenting at scientific meetings.
- The preparation and revision of an existing department undergraduate geophysics course (to be agreed upon), teaching of the course, assessment and re-revision of the course, and then re-teaching of the course.
- Involvement with the Center for Teaching and Learning.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. degree in seismology or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Track record of scientific productivity, e.g., a first author paper, or a demonstrable contribution to a large project.
- Knowledge of computer languages, such as R, Python, PERL, UNIX shell scripts, and/or C/C++.
- Experience teaching undergraduate students.
- Some experience with supervision of trainees.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
Working Conditions
This position works on the Washington University campus in St. Louis, with some travel required for presenting research at meetings and/or fieldwork.
Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.
