Required Education:

  • Appropriate PhD

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Training in statistics, and programming experience in a UNIX/Linux environment using programming languages such as Python, R, and/or Perl.

Preferred Education:

  • Recent PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, machine learning or related fields.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in high-throughput analysis of next-generation sequencing data, familiarity with cluster computing and widely-used consortium datasets are advantageous.
  • Strong publication record in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, machine learning and related fields.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in computational biology
  • Ability to devise innovative analytical approaches to high-volume genomic, epigenomic, and gene expression data.
  • Ability to work independently and take a leading role in data analysis, interpretation, and visualization, and drafting of manuscripts for publication.
  • Ability to have a strong work ethic, excellent organizational and communication skills, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - in English - and be capable of working within a team of wet and dry lab researchers.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform hypothesis driven computational research with a clear understanding and use of controls.
  • Use computational methods to analyze large-scale sequencing data and formulate quantitative models.
  • Development and dissemination of statistical methodology, software development, and application to large-scale genetic epidemiological studies. Specific areas of interest include multiclass regression model, nonparametric modeling and methods, multiple hypothesis testing and machine learning.
  • Explore and bring novel approaches and ideas to their project by collaborating with other labs at TAMU and other collaborators.
  • Maintain, update software on TAMU cluster for the group. Organize data backups periodically..
  • Contribute to our codebase and to keep your own code in a github (or equivalent) repository with version control.
  • Data presentations and meetings
  • Present their work at group meetings and conferences, and write up their work for publication.
  • Other Duties as assigned
