Job Description

What We are Looking For:

 

The Language Impairment and Down Syndrome Lab at Baylor University (LIDS Lab, PI: Alison Prahl, PhD, CCC-SLP) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Research in the LIDS lab focuses on language and literacy development in (a) children with primary language impairment and (b) children and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We focus on increasing the understanding of language and literacy profiles and improving language and literacy outcomes for these clinical populations. The person hired for this position will be directly involved with an NIH-funded clinical trial for young adults with IDD as well as supporting other projects within the lab. This two-year, full-time fellowship will provide rich opportunities to deepen one’s research program, develop new topical and methodological expertise, write grants, and develop new collaborations. The fellowship begins no later than August 2024, but can begin earlier.

Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. in the behavioral sciences or related field (e.g., speech-language pathology, special education, disability studies, psychology) [Applicants who are ABD are invited to apply if their degree is conferred by the start of the fellowship]
  • Prior experience working on or leading research projects.
  • A publication and/or clinical record that reflects experience with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities or related areas.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in at least one research methodology
  • Willingness to learn additional approaches to data collection and analyses (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed method)
  • Strong knowledge of language or literacy supports for children with primary language impairment or children/young adults with IDD.
  • Experience in working with children or young adults with IDD.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills including the accurate estimate of timelines and adherence to deadlines.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Experience working independently and with collaborative teams.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the design and implementation of core studies within this focus area
  • Recruiting, supporting, and retaining study participants.
  • Prepare and manage extensive databases.
  • Conducting systematic and other literature reviews
  • Developing applications for state, federal, and foundation funding
  • Working with community partners to inform this work.
  • Disseminating findings for both scholarly and practitioner audiences
  • Making presentations at state and national conferences
  • Contributing to or leading data analyses
  • Collaborating with other team members on all aspects of this research
  • Supervision of undergraduate and master’s level students
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission.
