Position Highlights

The University of Arizona, College of Nursing, is seeking dedicated and driven Postdoctoral Research Associates in Health Equity to support postdoctoral scholars in advancing to independent investigators in health research. This unique opportunity allows you to collaborate with renowned faculty members in areas of research excellence, including cancer prevention, cancer survivorship, women's health, healthy aging, and pain management. The primary focus of these positions is to work towards improving health equity for underserved populations.

This position is eligible for international sponsorship.

As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will demonstrate a strong understanding of coordinating experiments, conducting thorough analysis, employing statistical methods, and effectively interpreting research findings.

You will be equipped with essential grant writing skills to prepare compelling proposals, along with the ability to effectively draft manuscripts for publication in academic journals.

Postdoctoral Research Associates should possess excellent communication skills to confidently participate in scientific conferences and present research findings to the academic community.

During the one-year program, fellows will work with faculty mentors to develop a detailed mentoring and research plan, including grant submissions, acquisition of new knowledge, preparing manuscripts and presentations, and developing professional networks. A strong emphasis is placed on grant submissions (e.g., K award) to support continued fellowship effort and their program of research.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced research, including pilot studies.
  • Develop, design, and conduct complex research projects.
  • Formulate research methods and develop research criteria.
  • Participate in grant writing, including generating preliminary data, submitting grant applications, and preparing progress reports.
  • Derive, analyze, and format data for publications, presentations, and grant proposals.
  • Present research findings to the lab at department meetings, and at national and international conferences.
  • Participate in monthly research and professional meetings, seminars, and workshops.
  • Write and prepare one manuscript per semester for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Establish and maintain peer networks within the University of Arizona and with national experts in their fields.
  • Submit at least one NIH proposal (e.g., K-award)
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Strong motivation to develop an independent research career.
  • Ability to communicate professionally in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD (in nursing or a related field) conferred by the beginning date of appointment.
  • No more than 4 years of previous aggregate NRSA support.
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement in terms of data-based publications, extramural funding for pre-doctoral research training, and participation in regional or national research presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with basic statistics.
  • Experience with basic computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
