Position Highlights The Child Health Research Institute at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate III to study respiratory lung disorders. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team within the setting of an outstanding new facility capable of utilizing various advanced approaches. The candidate will be mentored in career development toward independent research and training to become a principle investigator. Enthusiastic applicants with several years of research experience in biochemistry, molecular biology,immunology, ceullular, molecular, and structural biology, or biological sciences are encouraged to apply.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design, plan, coordinate, and conduct scientific research.
  • Assist with generating new ideas and projects for development.
  • Design primers and probes, Real Time PCR tests as quantitative and qualitative, conventional PCRs, and RNA and DNA isolation. 
  • Work with protein expression, including designing cassettes, cloning and gene expression, protein extraction, and purification and refolding. 
  • Perform cell culture and IF microscopy. 
  • Conduct Immunoassays including antibody staining, designing ELISA, ELASA, and Immunofluorescent assays. 
  • Work Bioinformatics to create specific software for biologists (SnapGene, CLC, Mega, primer design, etc.), and conduct phylogenetic study. 
  • Perform quality management at laboratories, including preparation of SOPs, quality control, and documentation of information in laboratories.
  • Manage, maintain, and order laboratory equipment and supplies. 
  • Analyze research data and statistics. 
  • Prepare and contribute to manuscripts, author and co-author published scientific data, and publish in journals.
  • Prepare grant proposals in accordance with the aims and goals of the laboratory.
  • Present research at seminars and meetings, and represent the laboratory at scientific events.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of coordinating experiments, and completing analysis, statistics, and interpretation.
  • Skilled in grant writing and manuscript preparation.
  • Ability to participate at scientific conferences and present findings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a related discipline required.
  • Three (3) years of relevant post-graduate work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications * Background working with bioinformatics.
* Experience with designing primers and probes.
* Background working with protein extraction and expression, and with immunoassays.
* Demonstrated ability to independently develop reports and manuscripts and present findings in tabular, oral, written, and/or graphic formats.
