Postdoctoral Research Associate - Biomedical Engineering

The Carnegie Mellon Biomedical Engineering department seeks to transform healthcare worldwide through interdisciplinary engineering innovation and to train future leaders and innovators in biomedical engineering.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Abbott laboratory to work at the interface of material science and tissue engineering; developing and characterizing biomaterials for improved soft tissue regeneration.

Core responsibilities will include:

• Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and using specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.

• Conduct research experiments within the predetermined research scope and methodology of department and university.

• Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies may be required depending on area and specialty.

• Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree is required

• Ability to fabricate biomaterials (preference in silk biomaterial processing) and characterize them (SEM, rheology, FTIR, cell viability, metabolic assays, and confocal imaging).

• Experience with non-invasive ultrasound imaging and low intensity focused ultrasound stimulation.

• Background in adipose tissue biology and soft tissue regenerative approaches is preferred.
