Position Summary

The Laboratory of Hema Adhikari, Ph.D., in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is seeking a highly motivated enthusiastic scientist for a postdoctoral position. Our laboratory employs cutting-edge technologies to understand the plasticity of signaling pathways in cancer progression. Our research is aimed at new technology development as well as mechanistic investigation of signaling pathways with the goal of identifying actionable vulnerabilities for therapeutic development in difficult to target human cancers. Research background and experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, cell biology or a related research field is preferred. The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to work with collaborators and the facilities available to develop an independent project. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Trains under the supervision of a faculty mentor including (but not limited to):

  • Manages their own project, which should lead to a first author publication.
  • Develops expertise in cancer biology, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, cell culture, mouse models of cancer.
  • Develops proficiency in career skills, including writing, public speaking, networking, and critical evaluation of scientific literature.
  • Presents scientific work both inside and outside the university with excellent oral communication skills.
  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
  • Prepares and submits papers on research with excellent writing skills.
  • Designs and performs research experiments.
  • Analyze, interpret and discuss experimental data with PI on a regular basis.
  • Conscientious discharge of research responsibilities.
  • Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research.
  • Maintains compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records.
  • Engages in open and timely discussion with their mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.
  • Collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
  • Helps mentor other lab members, particularly graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Adheres to all applicable university policies, procedures and regulations. All data, research records and materials and other intellectual property generated in university laboratories remain the property of the university.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. or equivalent in biological sciences, biochemistry, cell biology, cancer biology or a related field.
  • Strong research background and experience in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology.
  • Evidence of successful completion of research project(s) resulting in publications.
  • Ability to conduct independent research. Interpret, present and discuss experimental data.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
