About the Position
The Postdoctoral Research Associate and Visiting Lecturer for TA Training Initiatives will advance the CATE mission to support the UIC community of educators in their efforts to improve instruction, innovate in the classroom, and transform the teaching culture. This position is responsible for supporting the expansion of TA training resources and programming at UIC. In coordination with the associate director, the postdoctoral research associate will coordinate the TA workshops series, create and deploy surveys, process and manage data, and contribute to summary reports and conference presentations to disseminate TA training program findings and impact. In the Graduate College, the visiting lecturer will develop and teach a new Teaching Assistant Fundamentals course designed to engage graduate student TAs at early stages of experience in the classroom to help them prepare for their current or future teaching assistant role and develop new training workshops and online resources to support teaching assistants across campus. This position is a full-time, 12-month appointment, with an anticipated start date sometime in late winter/early spring 2024. The combined salary for this joint-appointment position is $62,000.
About the Center
Founded in 2020, the Center for the Advancement of Teaching Excellence (CATE) supports all of those with teaching responsibilities at UIC, including faculty and graduate student teaching assistants, in adopting evidence-based, inclusive, and innovative teaching practices to ensure the success of a diverse student body from the undergraduate to graduate and professional student levels. CATE provides resources, consultations, professional learning programs, and certification opportunities to the UIC community, and partners with campus collaborators to support institutional and unit-level projects and initiatives related to the CATE mission.
