Qualifications

Required Education:

Appropriate PhD

Preferred Education:

PhD in Neuroscience or related discipline

Preferred Experience:

4 years of experience in performing bench research

Experience with neuronal physiology and mouse behavior

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skills in slice electrophysiology, cell culture, confocal microscopy, mouse behavior, manuscript preparation and ability to communicate research results clearly.

Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of mouse neuroanatomy, neuronal function and astrocyte biology


Job Responsibilities

Experimental research

  • Slice electrophysiology: patch clamp whole cell recordings of midbrain dopaminergic neurons
  • Live imaging of Ca2+ signals in mouse brain slices with confocal microscopy
  • Mouse behavior experiments including but not limited to Parkinson’s-related motor behaviors, Barnes maze
  • Mouse brain sectioning, immunostaining and imaging using confocal microscopy and slide scanner imaging
  • Stereotaxic injections of 6-OHDA and adeno-associated viral vectors into the mouse brain

Data analysis

  • Sort and quantify data obtained using electrophysiology, and live slice imaging of Ca2+ signals
  • Apply complex statistical analysis methods to data acquired from electrophysiology, Ca2+ imaging and mouse behavioral experiments
  • Interpret differences in data, and design follow-up experiments
  • Communication of scientific results at lab meetings and scientific conferences

Manuscript and grant proposal writing

  • Writing the first draft and editing primary research articles for publication
  • Aiding in writing research grant proposals to the NIH and NSF

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned, such as placing orders, routine lab maintenance, autoclaving and supervision of undergraduate students.
