The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the research team. Job Summary: Will be responsible for functional studies on T4SS effector from Coxiella burnetii through basic science protocols in bacteriology, cellular biology, immunology and molecular biology.

Required Education and Experience:

  • PhD in microbiology, cellular biology, immunology, biology, or a related field.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Molecular biology, bacterial genetics and cellular biology techniques are required.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.
  • Provide a safe environment that fosters respect.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Special Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Previous experience using biochemical, microbiological, immunological techniques, bacterial genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology.
  • Prior experience studying host pathogen interactions using biomedical, microbiological, immunological techniques.
  • Experience with primary tissue culture, confocal microscopy, and BL3/ABSL3 conditions and protocols.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts studies to characterize functions of type IV effectors from Coxiella burnetii.
  • Provides support for in vitro and in vivo studies.
  • Perform experiments based on the goals of current project in the lab. This position will complement ongoing studies on secreted virulence factors and in the development of novel genetic approaches of molecular pathogenesis studies with the agent.
  • Responsible for primary data analysis and initial preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
  • Works on current projects providing scientific research at the level of appropriate for a postdoctoral research associate.
  • Assists other members of the research team as needed.
  • Helps with new grant submissions.
  • Attends laboratory meetings and departmental seminars and journal club.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements or Other Factors

Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm with occasional nights and weekends.
