ATTENTION:

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, University Health & Counseling Services-Counseling Center is seeking a qualified Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow. The fellowship is a full-time, limited-term (12-month) position with benefits eligibility. The fellow hired will join a committed and energetic team that strives every day to provide a safe, supportive, and helpful atmosphere to address the psychological, holistic, and academic well-being of our students.

JOB DETAILS:

Postdoctoral Fellowship position provides training opportunities covering a typical university counseling setting, including crisis intervention, brief psychotherapy, multicultural counseling, program development and outreach, and working in a multi-disciplinary setting.

This fellowship emphasizes generalist training with the goal of preparing the provider for a position in a university counseling center. Also, opportunities exist for emphasized training in special populations and services, including ADHD assessment, working with students with disabilities, and student-athlete counseling, gaining hours towards Mental Performance Consultant certification. The UHCS counseling training program utilizes a practitioner-scholar developmental model of training which emphasizes experiential learning through concrete experience, reflective observation, active experimentation, and an establishment of mentoring relationships where training is viewed as relational and reciprocal.

Each fellow has her/his/their own office, equipped with a computer, internet access, and digital recording technology. You will maintain a UWW e-mail account, access to library resources, and athletic facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in psychology at the time of hire (ABD will not be considered)
  • Successful completion of an APA-accredited doctoral internship in Health Service Psychology

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Responsibilities


Provision of direct clinical services which include individual and group counseling, crisis management, adjunctive services, and consultation:

  • Perform patient psycho-diagnostic, psychological assessments, and evaluations
  • Identify patient psychological disorders and emotional patterns to understand and predict behavior
  • Provide individual, couples, and group counseling/therapy for students
  • Assess safety risks and develop safety plan for at-risk individuals
  • Provide a minimum of one day per week coverage of crisis interventions for students in acute emotional distress
  • Provide ADHD testing and feedback services to approximately one student per week
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individual and group psychological treatment programs with clinical staff and physicians
  • Complete clinical treatment reports in accordance with department and agency guidelines
  • Demonstrate an understanding of working with diverse populations
  • Explore referral options in the community; maintain updated list of referral providers
  • Provide consultation and referrals services to students, faculty, and staff regarding mental health issues.
  • Adhere to ethical practices guided by the professional code of ethics 

20% Clinical Supervision:

  • Receive 2 hours of individual supervision from a licensed psychologist.
  • Provide group clinical supervision to master's level counseling trainees under the supervision of a licensed psychologist
  • Provide didactic seminars for master's and doctoral trainees

Outreach and Training:

  • Provide a minimum of one UHCS outreach initiative each academic semester
  • Serve as liaison to related campus departments (i.e., Health Services, psychiatry, nutrition, athletics/athletic training, student services)
  • May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
  • Provide services to a special interest group. 2024-2025 will be focused on the student- athlete population.

Staff Meetings and Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned
  • Participate in weekly one-hour staff meetings and 1.5 hours case consultation with counseling center staff

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a stipend of $50,000.
