Location: Cleveland, OHIO
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Immediate postdoctoral positions are available in Dr. Shiwei Zhu's lab at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.

The Zhu lab investigates the interactions between host cells and invasive bacterial and parasitic pathogens. Our research employs a multi-disciplinary approach, primarily emphasizing cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) to visualize antimicrobial protein complexes in their native cellular context. Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a cryo-correlative light electron microscope (cryo-CLEM), Aquilos-2 cryo-focused ion beam/scanning electron microscopy (cryo-FIB/SEM), and Titan Krios TEM for cryo-ET. The department is intensely interested in structural biology and has significantly invested in cryo-EM/ET infrastructure. We seek an enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow to investigate host defense mechanisms and the adaptation of pathogens within host cells using cutting-edge cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) techniques in conjunction with cryo-CLEM and cryo-FIB/SEM. The postdoc position will involve: Visualizing critical biological processes in defending host cells against external threats through cryo-ET; Developing imaging methods for in situ cryo-ET and its applications in studying host-pathogen interactions.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in one or more of the following areas: structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, microbiology, or cell biology. Prior experience in structural biology research is not required. To inquire about the position, please email Dr. Zhu ([email protected]) with a cover letter describing your research interests, a recent CV, and the contact information of two academic referees.
