Description: Cerebrovascular dysfunction is a leading cause of dementia. There is an urgent public health need for basic and translational progress in understanding vascular dementia. The labs of Dr. Sarah Lutz (UIC) and Dr. Brian Popko (Northwestern) are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic candidate for a joint appointment to study blood-brain barrier dysfunction in vascular dementia. This project will utilize a newly developed mouse model of vascular dementia, transcriptomics of the cerebrovascular niche, and potential therapeutic interventions targeting the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. This position has multiple years of support from the Chicago Biomedical Consortium and offers a competitive salary. People from traditionally underrepresented groups in science are especially encouraged to apply.

 

Qualifications:

PhD in neuroscience, immunology, or other life science field. Exceptionally motivated candidates holding a Master’s degree may be considered.

Expertise with mouse models of disease.

Experience in bioinformatics including transcriptomic analysis with Python, R, is beneficial but not required.

Motivation, organization, teamwork, and leadership are welcome. This is a joint appointment to support a newly funded collaboration; time will be split between the two labs.
