Job Summary

Postdoctoral Position in Tendon Biology

Chad C. Carroll, Ph.D., at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN., is seeking to hire a post-doctoral fellow interested in tendon biology. The long-term goal of Dr. Carroll’s research is to determine the mechanisms contributing to poor tendon health and discover approaches for normalizing tendon function. Dr. Carroll’s multi-faceted research program has projects focused on endogenous circulating mediators of tendon pathology. These mediators include advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and hormones such as estrogen. His work also focuses on nutritional interventions and how their combination with exercise can modify tendon health. Work in our laboratory spans the translational spectrum – from molecular biology experiments to test disease mechanisms to human clinical trials to test treatment efficacy. The successful applicant will gain experience with human subjects research, genetic mouse models, magnetic resonance imaging studies, and ultrasound to assess tendon properties. Extensive collaborations exist with the Department of Biomedical Engineering (Drs. Craig Goergen and Deva Chan) and Animal Sciences (Dr. Shihuan Kuang).

Minimum qualifications include a PhD in physiology, exercise physiology, biochemistry, kinesiology, or biomedical engineering. Applicants must have the ability to work independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills and a previous publication history are expected. Preferred qualifications: experience working with rodent models and human subjects, prior experience with PCR, next-generation sequencing, mouse breeding, ultrasound, and MRI imaging.

A five-year NIH R01 application supports this position. The successful applicant will be expected to pursue extramural funding. To apply, submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, statement of research, and the names and contact information of three references through the "apply" link below.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
