A postdoctoral position funded through a sponsored research agreement with Boehringer-Ingelheim is available in the laboratory of Dr. Alexandra Naba in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois Chicago. This position is ideal for a recent or soon-to-be graduate interested in advancing their training in an academic environment while gaining experience with working with a big pharmaceutical company.

Dr. Naba’s research uses cutting-edge proteomics to decipher the roles of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in development, health, and diseases with a focus on cancer and fibrosis.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently design, perform, analyze, and interpret experiments to gain mechanistic insights on how the ECM of the tumor microenvironment influences cancer progression and response to treatment.
• Communicate research results to collaborators and via scientific publications or presentations at national and international conferences

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, structural biology, or related fields
• Proficiency expected in immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, mammalian cell culture, gene interference strategies, and common biochemical techniques including western blot, immunoprecipitation, ELISA
• Prior experience in quantitative histochemical and/or immunofluorescence image analysis (ImageJ, HALO, CT-FIRE, TWOMBLI) or in mass-spectrometry-based proteomics (LC-MS/MS) is preferrable
• Programming skills (R, Python) and experience working with “big data” are a plus
• The successful candidate will demonstrate self-motivation, a collaborative mindset, a great attention to detail, and will have excellent written and oral communication skills.
