Postdoctoral Fellow - Vakoc Lab

Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Cold Spring Harbor, NEW YORK

Position Description

The laboratory of Dr. Christopher Vakoc at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow to lead a project focused on cancer epigenetics and lineage plasticity. The key requirement for this position is recent Ph.D. training in cancer biology, cell biology, molecular genetics, or epigenetics. Familiarity with cancer models (tissue culture and/or animal), CRISPR-based genetic perturbations, and genome-scale evaluations of chromatin would be the most relevant for this position, however exceptional candidates will be considered with any area of biological research expertise. Candidates from non-traditional and/or under-represented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Vakoc lab studies transcriptional mechanisms that drive the pathogenesis of the cancer, with broad interests in the areas of leukemia, sarcoma, pancreatic, and lung cancers. A key enabling technology for this research is high-throughput genetic screening, which they have used to discover novel master regulators of tumor cell identity and novel therapeutic targets that allow for reprogramming of tumor cell identity. This postdoc hire will lead a new independent project that seeks to make an impactful discovery in the broad research area of cancer epigenetics, which will be an ideal project for launching an independent academic career.
