Purpose

The UT-Austin Tobacco Research and Evaluation Team (TRET) is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to be involved in research examining the use of tobacco products among young adults. The successful candidate will use data from multiple data sources to examine the etiology of tobacco use among young adults, with a focus on the roles of depressive symptoms, peer and parent tobacco use, acculturation, and social media influence use, dependence, and cessation, but other research questions may also be addressed using these data. Data sources are derived from cross-sectional and multi-wave studies on Texas-based cohorts.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibilities will be to author and co-author papers for publications and reports, and for presentation at national conferences. The post-doctoral fellow will work with Dr. Alexandra Loukas, project collaborators, and staff members to address innovative research questions. The post-doctoral fellow will design, revise, and implement self-report surveys to young adults; clean, prepare, and analyze data; and disseminate findings in the form of publications, presentations, and other reports, including those required by funders. The post-doctoral fellow will also participate in grant writing.
  • Disseminate findings from TRET data sources in the form of peer-reviewed publications and final reports for grant funders. Includes developing research questions, implementing surveys, cleaning, preparing, and analyzing data.
  • Present findings from TRET data sources at national and local conferences, as well as local meetings.
  • Design, revise, and implement surveys.
  • Help with submission of TRET grants.
  • Attend TRET meetings to communicate findings and results and brainstorm ideas.

Required Qualifications

Completion of the doctorate prior to the start of the position is required. PhD must have been received within 3 years of the start date. Doctorate must be in health behavior and health education, psychology, public health or a related field of study. Expertise in tobacco control research, strong statistical and methodological skills with experience analyzing longitudinal data using complex statistical techniques, and evidence of research dissemination in the form of publications and presentations are also required.

Preferred Qualifications

At least four years analyzing longitudinal tobacco use data and disseminating research in the form of peer-reviewed publications based on those data.

Salary Range

$60,000-$63,000

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
