Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Medical Oncology at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The primary purpose of the Postdoctoral Appointee position is to conduct research investigation to elucidate the mechanism of autophagy in regulating cancer metabolism and immune response for KRAS-driven lung tumorigenesis and therefore to provide potential treatment for KRAS-mutant lung under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Performs research, experiments, and laboratory techniques of a specialized nature under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator. Drafts written reports for inclusion in manuscripts and grant proposals.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Conducts research experiments to: 1. understand the mechanism of autophagy in regulating cancer metabolism and immune response for KRAS-mutant lung tumor growth and metastasis using genetically engineered mouse models and the state-of-the-art metabolomic and lipidomic analysis; 2. examine the efficacy of autophagy inhibition-directed combinational therapies, including immunotherapy and targeting therapy, using mouse models; 3. identify novel metabolic vulnerabilities in KRAS-mutant lung
    cancer.
  • Prepares written reports of the research experiments.
  • Prepares grant proposals based on the research conducted.
  • Prepares data for presentations and publications. Presents research results at laboratory and scientific meetings at the local and national level.
  • Assists with the instructing and training of students, fellows, lower-level professionals and technicians in laboratory technicians, instrumentation, etc. to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a relevant science finishing their training (following their residency and/or fellowship) who wish to prepare for careers in academic medicine.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in cancer biology research.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
