Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the department of  Radiation Oncology/RadCaBio at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. 
 The primary purpose of the Post-doctoral Fellow position is to independently conduct breast and ovarian cancer research and to analyze experiments relative to the understanding of oncogenic signaling and response to cancer therapies. The lab at Rutgers Cancer Institute leverages a number of experimental approaches including RNA sequencing (RNAseq), gene expression microarrays, DNA whole exome sequencing, DNA copy number analysis, proteomics, cell / tissue culture, and xenograft mouse modelsto address these questions. Our studies utilize a combination of in silico strategies to interrogate data from human patient samples coupled with experimental genetic models to replicate human tumor alterations in order to investigate mechanisms of disease in vitroand in vivo. The candidate will have the opportunity to join and grow a highly translational laboratory that seeks to identify underlying mechanisms of tumorigenesis and translate these findings into improved personalized therapeutic strategies for the treatment of breast and ovarian cancer. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  •  Perform independent research relevant to the interest and field of breast and ovarian cancer. 
  •  Expected to publish reports of key findings in a timely manner. 
  •  Keeps detailed records of procedures and experiments. Compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations pertinent to the research. 
  •  Prepares grant proposals based on the research conducted and maintains an up to date understanding of the relevant literature. 
  •  Gives oral presentations of the research at lab meetings and conferences. 
  •  Assists with the instructing and training of students, fellows, technicians, and laboratory assistants as required.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • New or recent PhD and/or MD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, or similar disciplines. 
  • Background in cancer biology research as evidenced by a strong publication record in the field.
  • Candidates in all but degree (ABD) status will also be considered. 
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Must be competent in standard laboratory techniques, mouse models of cancer, and knowledge in genomics and/or bioinformatics, including R or MATLAB, is desirable. 
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

  • Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs. 

  • Work Environment: Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals
