Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Neurology at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. 
 
The RWJMS Institute for Neurological Therapeutics is seeking highly motivated individuals who enjoy working in a team under the direction of the PI while concomitantly desiring to pursue their own ideas in a supportive environment. The lab and collaborating partners combine expertise in oxidative stress underlying the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease. 
 
Among the key duties of this position are the following: 
  •  Perform molecular biologic experiments that involve cloning of specific cDNAs in various vectors including viral vectors, PCR, sequence analyses, transcription assays, Western blotting, DNA-protein interaction, and cell biologic studies. 
  •  Conduct basic laboratory experiments in in vitro systems to study proteins and their functions. 
  •  Carry out studies with cultured cells including transfections, and primary cultures. 
  •  Treat and assess mouse models of neurodegenerative disease using behavioral tests. 
  •  Analyze the brains of animals modified genetically or through viral vectors, or treated with neurotoxins using morphological and biochemical assays including immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, HPLC, and q-PCR.

Minimum Education and Experience
  •  Ph.D. in Biomedical/Biological Science (with a focus on Neurodegeneration within the past 2 years) with background in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or a related discipline. 
  •  Candidates in all-but-degree (ABD) status will also be considered.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  •  Strong molecular biology background with accomplishments demonstrated by first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals. 
  •  Training and/or experience with the following: Basic molecular biology tools and techniques involving DNA, RNA and protein, gene-editing techniques like CRISPR/Cas9, Cell-culture techniques (experience with primary neurons and or iPSCs), animal handling and associated surgical techniques including creation of toxin-induced animal models to study Parkinson`s disease (PD) pathogenesis, stereotaxic injection, AAV /lentiviral particle making, mouse/rat- brain immunohistochemistry experience with recombinant protein and neurodegeneration.
