Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
 The Postdoctoral Fellow adapts and applies genome-scale approaches developed in a laboratory toward mammalian cells to study how human tRNA halves and fragments might be protective or antagonistic host responses against Covid-19 and mycobacterial infections. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  •  Designs and implements experiments independently with input from the adviser and collaborator(s).
  •  Characterizes the effects of stress-induced human tRNases and tRNA fragments (tRFs) on Covid-19 and mycobacterial infections using tRNAseq methods. 
  •  Holds an interest in acquiring expertise in the spectrum of computational/bioinformatic methods (from current lab members, specialized offsite courses, and online courses) required to analyze transcriptome and proteome data.
  •  Participates in weekly lab meetings.
  •  Contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory.

Minimum Education and Experience
  •  Qualified candidate will have a Ph.D. in Biomedical sciences or related disciplines. 
  • A minimum of three (3) years of previous experience in molecular biology.
  • Candidates in all but degree (ABD) status will also be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Highly motivated with evidence of productivity. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Adept at working in teams and with multiple Principal Investigators.

  • Equipment specific to a Pharmacology laboratory.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physical Demands: sitting, standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, talking and hearing.  No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift or exert force up to 25 pounds.
