The Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University was established in 1979 to conduct basic and applied research in robotics technologies relevant to industrial and societal tasks. Seeking to combine the practical and the theoretical, we have diversified efforts and approaches to robotics science while retaining the original goal of realizing the potential of the robotics field.

Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute is searching for a Postdoctoral Fellow. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by acting as team leader for specific areas of research projects. Working with principal investigator(s), prioritizes project goals based on overall organizational goals.

 

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Acts as team leader for specific areas of research projects. Working with principal investigator(s), prioritizes project goals based on overall organizational goals.
  • Working with other team members, contributes significantly in the development and documentation of research findings and is a major collaborator of scientific papers.
  • Frequently presents research findings to current or potential sponsors and at major national and international conferences.

 

Qualifications:

Ph.D. or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Functional authority in a specific field with the ability to apply mastery and broad understanding of the field (i.e., computer science, chemistry, design, etc.) to practical scientific or technical projects, also has a broad understanding of related fields
  • Excellent analytical, technical, reasoning and innovative problem solving skills
  • Ability to function competently in a team environment
  • Able to respond quickly and effectively to changing situations
  • Ability to balance conflicting priorities
  • Ability to balance conflicting priorities
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively and courteously with members of the campus community and external customers
  • Computer expertise
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records

Python programming experience nice-to-have.

 

You should have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, as well as good analytical and problem solving skills.
