Dr. Adrian Piliponsky, Center for Immunity and Immunotherapies, Seattle Children’s Research Institute, Department of Pediatrics, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work on projects focused on understanding the role of mast cells in homeostatic processes, innate immunity against bacterial infections and allergic disease.

This lab has a wealth of transgenic, knockout, and knock in mice and other valuable reagents and uses normal donor and patient cells to elucidate physiological responses as well as normal and pathological mechanisms. The current projects are based on some of our previous studies (J Allergy Clin Immunology 2022; 149(2): 685; J Clin Investigation 2022; 132(20): e157999; J Allergy Clin Immunology 2023; 152(3); 711-724).

The Piliponsky lab is supported by state-of-the-art methodologies used in human and murine systems including CRISPR/Cas9, spatial transcriptomics, and animal models of allergic disease and bacterial infections.  

Basic qualifications: The candidate must have an MD and/or PhD degree. The ideal candidate will be independent, innovative, and interactive, with a strong background in immunology, biochemistry, and molecular biology.

General job responsibilities

  • Meet with Principal Investigator on a regular basis to discuss proposed/ongoing studies, discuss implications of findings, and provide insights into new research directions
  • Candidates expected to run research projects in an independent manner
  • Write manuscripts, present data at national and international conferences
  • Assist PI in writing progress reports, grant proposals, protocols
  • Protocol development and review
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Develop additional scientific skills as appropriate for the research project and carry out research/development activities of assigned research projects.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies and skills

Requirements

Required Education/Experience:

  • Doctorate degree (PhD/DVM/MD) in specialty area from an accredited university training program.
  • Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience conducting research in the pediatric arena.
  • Experience in protocol and manuscript development and in grant writing.
