General Description of the Position


THIS POSITION IS 100% GRANT FUNDED
A postdoctoral research position is available in Machine Learning Methods in Optical Sciences and Imaging at Delaware State University as part of a collaborative research project. We seek an outstanding data scientist and/or physical scientist who is interested in developing and combining novel approaches to the modeling of diverse phenomena across different fields, including soft-matter physics, biological physics, optical physics, and multidimensional imaging. The overarching goal will be to further our understanding of macromolecular interactions in concentrated biopolymeric solutions, gels, and biological systems. 


Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate, who will be based at Delaware State University, will work with a team of collaborators from Universities and National Laboratories in the US. Job duties include the conceptualization and development of machine learning approaches relevant to analysis of mixed spectroscopic and imaging data and to physics-based modeling of macromolecular interactions, coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the project with the collaborators, working with students, preparing manuscripts for publication, and presenting the results of the project in appropriate scientific meetings. 


Qualification Standards

The position requires a PhD in a discipline associated with the applications of Data Science, especially Physics, Chemistry, and Material Science. In addition to coding skills, the candidate must have a strong background in algorithmic development and concepts of machine learning.
