Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Heather
Smallwood, Department of Pediatrics, University of Tennessee Health Science
Center. Dr. Smallwood is looking for an outstanding postdoctoral fellow to
conduct studies on the role of metabolism in respiratory viral infections
including influenza infection and COVID-19. Dr. Smallwood lab focuses on
metabolic dysregulation initiated by infection using clinical samples as well
as tissue culture and in vivo models for an integrated translational
approach, determining the molecular underpinnings responsible for metabolic
changes in the host, validating their physiological relevance, identifying
therapeutic targets, and testing intervention efficacy, multipronged approach
utilizing proteomics, transcriptomics, drug screening, basic wet lab techniques
for biochemical and immunological assays. Preference
will be given to candidates with experience in metabolism, immunology,
host-pathogen interactions, and cellular biology with laboratory expertise, experience
with respiratory viruses, primary tissue culture and animal models. Experience
with large data analysis is an asset. The
postdoc fellow is expected to work independently to advance projects as well as
work in a team. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required.
