A postdoctoral position is available in the Molecular and Cell Biology Section (https://ccr.cancer.gov/neuro-oncology-branch/chunzhang-yang ) in Neuro-Oncology Branch (NOB), National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The position is offered to explore the role of oncometabolite and molecular signaling in brain tumors. The research will systematically investigate the epigenetic changes in oncometabolite-driven cancers. Genetic and biochemical approaches will be employed to characterize the critical epigenetic targets among pathways of DNA repair, metabolism, and therapy resistance. The mechanistic findings will be verified through proof-of-concept investigation with the latest in vitro and in vivo models and patient-derived specimens for validation. Experimental therapeutics are designed based on our preliminary findings, which provide strong justifications for future clinical translation and application.
Successful candidates should:1. be highly motivated, able to conduct semi-independent research, and function as part of an interdisciplinary team, 2. with strong expertise in the fields of cancer biology, molecular biology, and animal experiments, 3. have expertise in advanced confocal microscopy and intracranial/subcutaneous mouse xenograft models, 4. have direct experience with many of the following laboratory techniques: cell culture and transfection, DNA cloning and subcloning, and site-directed mutagenesis, 5. possess excellent communication skills and be fluent in both spoken and written English.
Besides being a unique research opportunity in an emerging field with important basic/translational implications, our laboratory will support initiatives to strengthen the scientific career of postdoctoral trainees per the level and achievements demonstrated.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree, preferably in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or a related field, be near completion of degree requirements, and have no more than five years of postdoctoral research experience.
Please email curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, and three letters of reference to the attention of: Chunzhang Yang, Ph.D., Neuro-Oncology Branch, National Cancer Institute, 37 Convent Drive, Room 1142E, Bethesda, MD 20892 at chunzhang.yang@nih.gov .
